    Current

His work is characterised by a distinctive visual language, shaped by a self-assured, impasto-like painting style and a critical reflection on figurative painting. Teichmann engages intensively with art-historical models, particularly from the Baroque and Classical periods. In the ‘Classics’ series, he combines genres such as still life and portraiture with contemporary modes of interpretation, thereby creating a multi-layered dialogue between the past and the present. His body of work encompasses both monumental and smaller formats, in which narrative and formal tensions arise through the deliberate use of colour and compositional structure.

In his floral still lifes, he reinterprets traditional compositions. He counters the richly detailed opulence of the Old Masters with a reduction in both subject matter and colour palette. Details are condensed into a gestural, free pictorial concept that challenges the viewer whilst simultaneously captivating them with its presence. This approach reflects the perception of our times, in which rapid comprehension and a superficial flood of information compete with one another.

The international recognition of his work, for example through its presentation at the 54th Venice Biennale, underlines his significance for the contemporary debate on the role of painting in the 21st century. Lars Teichmann sees himself as a bridge-builder between traditional craftsmanship and modern reflection, not only by referencing classical painting but also by critically rethinking and transforming it.
