In his representational oil paintings, Daniel Ewerman captures the Swedish landscape, which is characterised by water, woodland and villages. His focus is on the wide variety of lighting conditions that this Nordic country and its vast skies have to offer. He captures these in small formats. The landscape becomes a miniature and thus appears less accessible and more precious. In his paintings, he frequently applies a final coat of transparent varnish, which remains visible through the use of rough brushstrokes. Through this stylistic device, the artist distances himself further from the landscape; he creates, as it were, a veil through which one views it.
